Hamlin looking for another medal in Olympics finale

Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics

An entire community cheering from thousands of miles away, as Team USA Olympic luger Erin Hamlin's alma mater Remsen Junior-Senior High school, hosts early morning viewing parties for the competition in PyeongChang, South Korea.

On Wednesday, Liam Boylan-Pett of NBC Olympics reported luge competitor Erin Hamlin will bear the flag at Friday's opening ceremony and lead 244 American athletes.

She said the closing ceremony is also an emotional time.

Her teammate Emily Sweeney crashed on her final run and after several minutes of being attended to by medical personnel was helped off the track. It will kind of be a good distraction towards something else for me to put time and energy into and will give me a break from thinking about sliding every second of the day, so I'm excited.

With five world cup individual wins to her credit, Britcher is the all-time wins leader in US history for singles luge athletes.

The German star is now the two-time Olympic champion, after finishing off the historic win at the Pyeongchang Games. "That was never something I thought I would accomplish or get the opportunity to do". "I've always stayed true to what works for me, and that means keeping things consistent". Her family just thought it would be fun to try out luging at an event in Syracuse, NY.

Hamlin said that she has met US snowboarding legend Shaun White before the opening ceremony in Sochi.

"Over the years, I have seen a lot of the same people, so you start to form friendships, which is cool, and the Olympics make that happen", Hamlin said. And at just 12 years old, she had exactly what they were looking for.
