Gigi Hadid slams body shamers: 'Learn to have more empathy'

Gigi Hadid has had enough of being criticised over her weight and yesterday issued a statement explaining why her body has changed so much over the years.

Talking on Twitter, she said that the condition was at its worse when she was 17 and just starting out in the industry. Then later, when her weight melted off, some people started calling her too skinny. So, on Sunday, she chose to hit out at these people through a series of powerful posts on her official Twitter account. In a series of tweets, she explained the cause and effect of the disease that she struggled with.

The 22-year-old instead had a message for people shaming her body image - knock it off! "I was also part of a holistic medical trial that helped my thyroid levels balance out", she wrote. "I may be "too skinny" for u, honestly this skinny isn't what I want to be, but I feel healthier internally and am still learning and growing with my body everyday, as everyone is", she continued.

It's utterly sad that she actually felt the need to clarify.

More importantly, this thread is evidence that critics can never truly know what kind of health concerns a person may be dealing with, and the way they present physically; it would behoove us all to judge a little less (and a little less quickly).

Chrissy Teigen showed her solidarity in the most Chrissy Teigen way possible. It's high-time people actually follow this one. "Use your energy to lift those that you admire rather than be cruel to those u don't".

Furthermore, Gigi addressed the rumor that she takes drugs.

One person wrote, "why does Gigi's body always look big one day and smaller the next?" She has often been asked for tips to maintain beauty.

It's great that Gigi is standing up for herself, and that people on social media can relate to her, but it's also important to remember that she doesn't owe anyone an explanation about her body, or why she looks the way she does - and Gigi knows that. Her fellow model pal, Kendall Jenner, supported this comment with a re-tweet and "preach" response.
