Florida lawmakers refuse to debate assault rifles, but say porn is risky

Aaron Feis was remembered Thursday as a loyal friend and a hero during an emotional funeral service that began with football players carrying the casket into the Church by the Glades in Coral Springs, not far from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.

A couple hours earlier students from Gilbert High School gathered on campus to do the same.

The Poughkeepsie Journal reports that a student prevented a school shooting in Fair Haven, Vermont, last week after receiving threats from a would-be shooter. Support services will continue to be available for all of those in need.

Whereas the survivors of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting were too young to mobilize, the survivors at Parkland are old enough to organize, tweet, stage walkouts and protest - which they did in droves - prompting even more media coverage.

Calls for gun control rose in the U.S. after Sandy Hook and the Columbine shooting, but were defeated by Congress.

David Hogg - who's been particularly vocal since 17 people were killed at his high school in Parkland, Fla. - became the target of a baseless smear campaign online after news spread that his father is a retired Federal Bureau of Investigation agent.

"I think kids shouldn't have to come to school scared and that should be somebody's number one priority, is to make sure that kids of our schools aren't scared, because that's the last place they should be scared", said Big Sky student Kassie Marcinkowski. If gun control advocates want to effect real change in the way politicians view the politics of guns, they need to show there are political consequences on both sides of this debate - not just the NRA's.

At least eight Osceola schools had students take part in the walkouts.

President Donald Trump is promising action - although he remains uncertain as to what, specifically, he wants to get done and in what order. It is called an assault weapon. Large numbers of students could be seen gathering outside at Pinellas Park, Dunedin, Lakewood, East Lake, Land O'Lakes, Hillsborough, Spoto and Wesley Chapel high schools, among others.

"We will not rest until something changes".

In Switzerland, however, most people gain access to weapons because of military service that provides training; other prospective purchasers have to go through a multiweek background check.

The school shooting, on February 14th, was America's deadliest since 2012 when a gunman killed 20 children, six adults and himself at Sandy Hook Elementary School in CT. "That's an issue that we're reviewing", he said.

But Boldrick vowed to ignore the noise, as her son prepares for an anti-gun violence march on Washington planned for March 24. Legislators may also enact a waiting period for rifle purchases.

The 19-year-old suspect Nikolas Cruz was captured an hour later in a neighborhood about 2 miles (3 kilometers) from the school where 17 people died February 14.

He believes the post-high school activism we've been seeing since the shooting can best be described by Edmund Burke - an 18th century political philosopher who said "democracy's best villain is apathy".

Adding more school resource officers, more money for mental health screenings, and arming teachers with guns are all focal points.
