Easy compromise with N. Korea may accelerate nuclear crisis

U.S. Olympic Team Trials- Short Track

Mr. Moon has said in the past that he only wanted to meet the North Korean leader if they can make progress on nuclear issues.

As a way to support North Korean believers and to understand their hardship, pain and courage, Open Doors has asked Christians to live like a North Korean with their Lent resource of the same name.

Fireworks erupt as the Olympic Cauldron is lit during the Opening Ceremony of the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games at PyeongChang Olympic Stadium on February 9, 2018 in Pyeongchang-gun, South Korea.

It was the US that appeared to be the one left in the cold, especially after the sister of the North Korean dictator extended an invitation from her brother for Moon to visit the North.

The ceremony was also watched by South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean ceremonial head of state Kim Yong Nam, who had earlier shaken hands in an historic meeting.

"She (Kim Yo Jong) is not charming, she is a dictator's sister", Laila said."She is not looking after North Korean people".

South Korea says North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has invited South Korean President Moon Jae-in for a summit meeting in the North. The message was delivered by Kim's sister, Kim Yo-jong, during a meeting with Moon at Cheong Wa Dae.

Many experts say Kim's overture is meant to use improved ties with Seoul as a way to weaken USA -led global sanctions toughened after its series of big weapons tests a year ago that include its sixth and largest nuclear test explosion and three intercontinental ballistic missile launches.

There has been a dramatic cooling of tensions on the Korean peninsula in the past two months and Moon has made it clear he hopes the rapprochement can continue after the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang ends.

The invitation came during talks and a lunch Moon hosted with Kim Yo-jong, the younger sister of the North Korean leader, at the presidential Blue House in Seoul. South Korea wants a northern neighbor without nukes; North Korea vows to keep its weapons until the United States discards its "hostile" policies against the country.

The United States has repeatedly pressed China, North Korea's most significant trading partner and main ally, to do more to rein in Pyongyang's nuclear and missile ambitions.

South and North Koreans marched together under a unified flag at the games' opening ceremony.

Official organizers for the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics are investigating an interference to certain virtual systems in what could have been a cyberattack, Reuters reported Saturday.

The luncheon also included Choe Hwi, chairman of the North's National Sports Guidance Committee, and Ri Son Gwon, chairman of the agency that deals with inter-Korean affairs.

If the encounter took place, it would be the first between Kim and a South Korean president, and the first North-South summit on the peninsula since 2007.

"Kim Jong Un is clearly serious about reviving talks with the South to improve relations", said Koh Yu-hwan, a North Korea expert at Seoul's Dongguk University and a security adviser to Moon.
