Donald Trump needs disgraced aide Rob Porter properly after home abuse allegations

Former New Jersey Republican Gov. Christine Todd Whitman tweeted: "The fact that @realDonaldTrump praised Porter and said not a word about his abusive behavior or his former wives is typical of the WH attitude toward women and abuse". But he was supportive of his former staff secretary.

Trump was elected promising to bring "the best people" with him to "drain the swamp" in Washington.

"He did a very good job when he was in the White House". "We hope that he will have a wonderful career". "We absolutely wish him well".

Speechwriter David Sorensen resigned after Jessica Corbett alleged she was the victim of domestic violence during their two-and-a-half-year marriage. "Before we were ed by the media, we learned last night that there were allegations".

Sorensen denied all the claims in a statement released to media. Porter to be fired 40 minutes after learning of the charges against him, an assertion that other officials disputed.

He only stepped down from his post Wednesday after the accusations became public.

As a candidate, Trump acknowledged that he had made lewd comments about grabbing women's crotches after The Post reported on a recording of Trump joking about doing so.

Porter's abrupt departure has raised questions about how long it took Trump's team to act on the accusations. He insisted to White House officials that he had quickly pushed Porter out once the allegations proved credible, the Washington Post reported. (Hint: his office has no corners.) Now, it's time to award the silver medal to an unexpected choice: White House Chief of Staff John Kelly.

He made no mention of the ex-wives or the alleged domestic abuse.

Both men deny the allegations.

In a statement provided to NYT through an aide, Mnuchin said he had been "impressed" with Hicks since working with her on the campaign. It might not come as a surprise, then, that Trump would be eager to protect those accused of sexual abuse rather than those who say they've been victimized by it.

Trump noted that Porter has denied the allegations of domestic abuse leveled by two of his ex-wives.

In the spirit of the Olympics, it has always been clear who takes the gold medal for worst performer in the White House. And now, all of a sudden, they're saying these disgusting things about him.

Trump himself has had to deny accusations from more than a dozen women that he has sexually abused them or behaved inappropriately. "The timing and absurdity of these false claims speaks volumes and the publicity tour that has begun only further confirms the political motives behind them". There is no recovery for someone falsely accused - life and career are gone.

Trump's tendency to call for justice even if the circumstances seem questionable dates back to well before his time in the political sphere.

Two White House staff members resigned this week over reports of domestic abuse.

Meanwhile, Deputy staff secretary Derek Lyons has been promoted to acting staff secretary as a replacement for Porter. But Porter, a Harvard Law School graduate, had not yet received that clearance because the required background check was still ongoing.

Months before Willoughby spoke to reporters and identified Porter by name, she published a blog post explaining the fear and anxiety she felt about leaving her marriage and going public about the abuse she said she had suffered at the hands of a powerful man who was well-liked and well-respected. Vice President Mike Pence, traveling in South Korea to attend the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics, said he was "appalled" by the allegations against Porter.
