Austin Dillon draws pole position for the Clash at Daytona

Danica Patrick speaks with the media during a news conference before Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series auto race at Homestead Miami Speedway in Homestead Fla. Friday Nov. 17 2017. Patrick will end her full-time racing career after running in this year's Dayt

Patrick asked, glancing at a TV monitor showing cars turning laps at Daytona International Speedway for Sunday's season-opening exhibition race.

The last time Danica Patrick was at a racetrack, she was weeping. Just came together too late and thought of it too late. "A couple of days ago I was thinking to myself that we should have run the backup vehicle in the (exhibition)". It would have been good practice.

Patrick is retiring after she races in both NASCAR's February 18 season-opening Daytona 500 and the Indianapolis 500 in May.

The race is a 75-lap shootout that consist of two stages. Blaney led the way in this first session.

"I was like, 'Man, where was I on that one?' It would have just been a good gamble to use the backup but didn't think of it soon enough and was honestly just really concerned about the work getting done to put the primary auto out there for the 500". Following Truex Jr.'s title-winning performance during the 2017 season, fans are flocking to his camp in hopes of witnessing the two-time Chicagoland Speedway race victor finally obtain his first win in "The Great American Race". The No. 1 qualifying spot at Daytona in 2013 remains her lone career pole in the Cup Series. "I'm excited to show him what I do". That she and Eury have reunited is an appropriate way for Patrick to put a bow on her time in NASCAR.

With this offer, fans who purchase a single-day Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Overton's 400 ticket and pay in full between now and the DAYTONA 500 will receive a ticket refund following the race if Truex earns the victory. Patrick is the only woman to lead laps in the Daytona 500, win the pole for the Daytona 500, and win an IndyCar race, and is also the highest-finishing woman in the Indy 500. When rides for the "Daytona Double" did not materialize as predicted, Patrick worked behind the scenes to move the process along. It was Patrick who facilitated sponsorship with GoDaddy, her previous sponsor from 2010-2015 and played a significant role in helping launch her into the national lexicon when the company had her star in multiple Super Bowl commercials.

It was Homestead-Miami Speedway last November, and Patrick was announcing her retirement from racing.
