Apple AirPod Allegedly Explodes, Apple Investigating

Florida man claims his Apple Air Pod exploded

The right AirPod was burned and broken while the left side was left unharmed. "It's the craziest thing I ever went through".

The incident happened earlier this week when Jason Colon was working out at a local LA Fitness club in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Colon took off his AirPods and put them on some workout equipment while he looked around for a member of staff. White smoke started to come out of the device. When he returned, he was shocked."It was already like this".

"It was already like this".

"It was already popped", Colon told WFLA. He further stated that "I don't know what would've happened to my ear. You can see flame damage", Colon told the station.

Lithium-particle batteries are known to overheat and detonate, however while AirPods do contain batteries, it's not in any way obvious that they were the reason for whatever happened to Colon's. Even Colon isn't sure why the wireless AirPods blew up, and there have been no prior reports of exploding AirPods either. But I'm sure since it hangs down, it could've been earlobe. "Ear lobe could've been burnt".

This isn't the first case of a popular product bursting into flames.

In 2016, Samsung recalled the Galaxy Note 7 after some phones caught fire because of a defect in the batteries. By the time he got back, one of the AirPods had blown up, he claims.

"I didn't witness it, however I mean, it was at that point browned".

An Apple spokesperson, in response to question for comment from Channel 8 News, said the company has launched an investigation into the incident and will reach out to Colton, accordingly.
