The case was registered by the Khar police as the complainant mentioned that the accused was a resident of Mumbai, he said. Calling it a "technical arrest", the cops released him within a few hours, as he had already acquired anticipatory bail from court. I am told it was a procedural technical arrest and I have already been released on surety.

Leading angel investor Mahesh Murthy was on Friday arrested by Mumbai Police for allegedly sexually harassing several women on social media platforms, including WhatsApp. The commission had directed the police to apprise them about the details of the case along with action taken within 15 days. The police said after the complaint was received, it was forwarded to the local police station under whose jurisdiction Murthy resides. He was initially booked in the last week of December after a woman claimed that the Murhty had stalked her, apart from making objectionable, derogatory and sexual remarks and obscene signs.

He has been booked under Indian Penal Code sections 354 (D) (stalking offline and online) and 509 (word, gesture or act meant to insult the modesty of a woman) and section 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act. This is an attempt to counter-sue. During a group conversation, the victim praised Murthy, after which he started conversing with her on her personal chat.

The Delhi-based complainant then approached the NCW for help, said police.

A cognizable offence was registered at the Khar Police station under section 67 of IT Act, section 354 (D) and 509 of IPC.

When his founding partners at his venture capital fund Seedfund were asked about his behaviour, they said that while they do not endorse or condone the alleged behavior, there were at least two instances when the fund's limited partners asked about allegations against Murthy. "The complainant has submitted screenshots of the chats with Murthy and said she found the "kisses" emoticons objectionable". We will produce him in the Bandra court on Saturday. Mahesh Murthy goes to jail.

A Reuters' Journalist, Swati Pandey, was one of the women who had earlier accused Murthy of the same.

In April a year ago, a series of complaints surfaced on social media against Murthy.
