5 dead after 'horrific murder spree' in Johnson County

Authorities did not immediately identify the victims but a source told Heavy that the slain were Nickell's mother, father, girlfriend, and her mother.

The sheriff, Dwayne Price, said two bodies were found at a McKenzie Branch residence in the Flat Ga area, prompting a search for a suspect.

Five people were left dead after a quadruple murder-suicide in Kentucky on Saturday afternoon.

Price said the sheriff's office and Kentucky State Police were investigating the slayings.

The murder spree happened just before 3.30pm Saturday when police received a 9-1-1 call to a shooting in Paintsville, Lex18.com reported. Price and responding deputies found two victims dead in the kitchen.

Police throughout the area were on alert and warned that Nickell was armed and risky. Police say Nickell took his own life after committing the murders.

Price said after officers received a tip on the whereabouts of a suspect's vehicle, three more bodies, including that of the presumed shooter, were later found at an apartment complex. "The perpetrator then took his own life".

'There are no words to describe the heartbreak in seeing four lives taken due to the actions of one man. This is one of the most disturbing acts of violence I have ever seen.

Among the dead at the second residence was the suspect, whom police identified as Joseph Nickell.
