A passenger jet slid off the runway and became stuck in mud after landing at an global airport in Turkey's Black Sea province of Trabzon late Saturday.

Shocking footage from inside the plane just moments after the crash shows passengers evacuating as women and children are heard crying out in fear.

Early reports suggest that the wheels dug into the frozen mud, which stopped it from falling completely into the Black Sea.

State-run Anadolu news agency said there was panic on board as the plane went out of control.

Private Pegasus Airlines' 737-800 departed from late Saturday. Flights were suspended at Trabzon Airport for several hours after the incident before resuming again Sunday. "There was panic; people shouting, screaming", she said.

All 162 passengers and crew on board were evacuated and are safe, Trabzon Governor YĆ¼cel Yavuz said. "The front of the plane crashed and the back was in the air".

The flight originated in the capital, Ankara.
