The Walking Dead Renewed for Season 9 with a New Showrunner

AMC says it has ordered a ninth season of its zombie-apocalypse drama The Walking Dead to premiere in late 2018.

Angela Kang, who has been a writer on TWD since 2011 and co-executive producer since 2013, is being promoted to executive producer and showrunner of the flagship series, starting with Season 9.

At any rate, Gimple is moving up to a role-created-just-for-him, chief content officer, looking over all Walking Dead TV enterprises, including Fear the Walking Dead, as well as any future brand extensions.

AMC president Charlie Collier called the development "enormously important day for the entire The Walking Dead television universe".

Following on from the cliffhanger ending of Season 8, the next series will keep up with the fight between an alliance of semi do-gooders led by prime character Nick Grimes and the brutal saviours faction and their leader Negan.

Angela Kang will become the fourth showrunner in what is increasingly looking like a cursed Defense Against the Dark Arts instructor job.

But Kang's promotion doesn't mean Gimple is out of the show.

Although it has already been revealed that Morgan will be a cast regular, it is not yet known as to which point in his life he will cross paths with the survivors of "Fear the Walking Dead".

While it isn't entirely surprising that "The Walking Dead" has been renewed for season 9, certain changes had been made behind the scenes. Among the episodes of the show she has written are the Season 2 episode "Judge, Jury, Executioner", the Season 4 episode "Still", and the Season 7 episode "The Cell".

They've even started a petition to get showrunner Scott M. Gimple fired due to Riggs' unfair treatment, as well as the fact that Carl Grimes is still a leading and pivotal character in the comic book series on which the show is based. "Working on this series and having the opportunity to adapt Robert Kirkman's awesome comic has been a fangirl dream come true for me", said Kang. "I'm excited to continue working with Scott and the wonderfully supportive folks at AMC, and can't wait to share the next chapter of the story with our fans next fall".
