Terrorists from Kashmir are martyrs, they are our brothers: PDP MLA

On Wednesterday, he had said in the assembly that the Government should hold talks with all parties concerned, including separatists, to resolve the Kashmir issue.

"Those (militants) who are from Kashmir, killed in any situation, are martyrs".

Asked about a recent incident when militants hurled a grenade at his residence, the PDP legislator said, "We believe in India and they believe in something else that is why I was attacked". Almost one lakh people have been killed due to militancy in all these years. We should sympathise with the parents of jawans and with the parents of terrorists as well. "Otherwise, if any mainstream leader makes such statements, he will be booked under the public safety act and his security will be withdrawn", Mir told The Telegraph. "We are thankful to the parents who are appealing to their wards to return from the path of militancy".

To a poser on local militants, he said, "Call them militants or terrorists, but they are Kashmiris, they are our brothers".

"Whether the BJP believes that the militants are their brothers and sisters? It is a difference of ideology". "I request you all to stop politicising their killing and take some appropriate steps to end this violence", said Mir, adding that this house has to end the blame game over killings.

The ruling party MLA's controversial statement has left its ally BJP red-faced.

"The militants belong to Jammu and Kashmir, they are our children". These are questions the BJP and PDP need to answer. The PDP MLA added that it does not matter that under what circumstances the people were killed if they hailed from Kashmir, they are "martyrs".

Aijaz Ahmed Mir's remarks came as an embarrassment for the party as its alliance partner BJP decried the comments saying these were "absolutely intolerable" and demanded an FIR against him. "How can they be someone's brother?" asked Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.
