Ryan Shazier's father says the Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker continues to make progress in his recovery from a spinal injury he suffered last month. His journey to gaining feeling in his legs started with multiple nights in a Cincinnati area hospital before he was transferred to Pittsburgh. "He's a long ways from where he was Monday night when he was laying on the field". Shazier underwent spinal stabilization surgery there before eventually beginning the long rehab process.

Vernon Shazier told WPXI that Ryan is regaining feeling in his legs. Still, Vernon Shazier broke down in tears while telling WPXI about when he first heard from his son following the injury.

"When your child is laying there in a situation like this, I was hoping and wishing I could switch positions with him", Vernon said.

Ryan watched the Steelers' final two regular season home games against the New England Patriots and the Cleveland Browns from a suite at Heinz Field.
