"This was probably three or four months before he died and Prince asks [my daughter] Sasha to come up and dance, and she's an excellent dancer", Obama said in the clip.

But former President Barack Obama has learned to rein in his cheesiest impulses on the dance floor, according to an interview he gave for the first episode of David Letterman's new Netflix show.

My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman premieres this Friday, 12 January on Netflix.

Here's how to avoid embarrassment, dads: "I think the key is what we call staying in the pocket", the former POTUS explained. Before they know it, they're doing karate kicks. The six-episode series will feature appearances by Tina Fey, Jay-Z, George Clooney, Malala Yousafzai, Howard Stern, and President Barack Obama.

"I have dad moves", Obama said in the clip, giving hope to all dads out there trying to bust a move.

Meanwhile, the beard - you know which one and on whom - remains long and snow-white. In addition to welcoming our former commander in chief, Letterman will chat with actor George Clooney, Nobel Prize victor Malala Yousafzai, hip-hop mogul Jay-Z, comedian Tina Fey, and radio personality Howard Stern.

The monthly talk show will see Letterman interview an impressive lineup of influential guests. Recently, Netflix teased the late night host's new TV show My Next Guest Needs No Introduction.
