NFL Mock Draft: Mel Kiper, Jr. Has Josh Allen No. 1 Overall

Bulking up the front-seven on defense could be one of the priorities of the offseason for New England, and Kiper did that by having them take defensive end Rasheem Green from USC.

While the 49ers' draft spot will be determined by a coin flip with the Oakland Raiders during the NFL Scouting Combine, Kiper has them selecting ninth overall.

Can you guess who Kiper rolled the dice with in Cleveland?

Allen will play in this year's Reese's Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., on Saturday, Jan. 27.

Allen led Wyoming to an 8-5 overall record and a victory in the 2017 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen have gotten most of the buzz as the two best quarterbacks in the upcoming NFL Draft, but one expert does not expect either player to be the first player off the board in April.

Kiper projects Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen to Cleveland with the first pick. "And you could say he had this shoulder injury, but he came back from the shoulder against Central Michigan in the bowl, and he lit it up, made National Football League throws, showed tremendous competitiveness". Made NFL throws, showed tremendous competitiveness.

While months of draft preparation will change the projections, for now, it seems this year is going to be out about the quarterbacks.

"That's why when I look at the Giants - and I know some people think that's too early for Josh Allen - that could be a flawless thing for him because you've got Eli Manning for the next couple years".

But then Kiper came down to earth, going with UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen at No. 2 to the Giants. He also led the Cowboys to wins over two Top 25 teams in the 2016 season. You think about that final game against Ohio State, he misses an open receiver for a touchdown, fumbles in the pocket to cost them three, a pick-six.

In 2005, there were four first-round picks from Auburn. If he had played in a better passing offense, he could have been a Biletnikoff victor. Both Gentry and Hollister saw playing time, as well, during the 2017 season.
