Mike McCarthy: It's all about 'fit' between coach, Packers' next GM

McAdoo was Green Bay's quarterbacks coach before going to the Giants. It's one of a number of changes following a season McCarthy said simply wasn't up to the organization's standards. And while team president Mark Murphy was emphatic this week that McCarthy would be the coach, there's more to it than just a signed paper and some news conference jibber-jabber. Trgovac coached the defensive line since 2009. Ex-Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio interviewed for the Bears' vacant head-coaching position Wednesday but could be available if the team hires someone else to replace John Fox.

Of course, Rodgers' absence for several weeks due to a broken collarbone played a big role in Green Bay's failure to even make it to the playoffs, but there were also other underlying factors as to why the Packers underperformed on both sides of the ball.

The purge in Green Bay continues. He's got two seasons remaining on his contract and it's not hard to see him playing beyond those two seasons, so his getting along with the new coordinator and QB coach is obviously of paramount importance. "Additionally, I want to thank every player that has stepped on the field for us". That will fall clearly under what's best for the Green Bay Packers.

So far the Packers have made four great moves to be successful going forward: new GM, new defensive coordinator, Davante Adams' four-year $58 million deal, Corey Linsley's three-year $25.5 million deal. On a personal note, Ted's work ethic, humility and loyalty are almost unparalleled, and it has been one of the great honors of my life to work beside him. Coach Mike McCarthy has handled the offensive playcalling duties since he was hired in 2006, except for a 12-game stretch during the 2015 season in which he gave the responsibility to then-associate head coach Tom Clements, who is no longer on the staff. All aspects of football operations will be evaluated once the coaching staff is set.

Regardless of the coaching staff changes, there will be a lot of pressure on the new general manager.

Who do you think should take over as the new offensive coordinator?

The Green Bay Packers took a step backward offensively in 2017, largely due to the long-term injury to star quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
