Kmart in Portland will close in 2018

The K-mart in Lower Paxton Township will close

Sears sold its store in the Lloyd Center in 2016 and on Thursday its parent company said it would close its store at the venerable mall, which is in the process of reinventing itself.

Unclear is how the struggling retailer performed during the holiday season.

John Lehn, president/CEO of Kings County Economic Development Corporation, said he is not sure how many associates the Hanford Sears store employs, but said Kings EDC will reach out to the managers of the store to offer its services.

Closeout sales at the affected locations will begin next week with all 103 locations shuttered by May.

Sears Holdings announced Thursday that it plans to close more than 100 stores in 2018, and the Helena and Butte locations are on the list.

Sears announced in November that 63 Kmart and Sears stores would close this month including the Kmart in Austintown.

Eligible workers impacted by these store closures will receive severance and will have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Kmart or Sears stores.

It's the latest closings as the company seeks to shutter unprofitable stores. Liquidation sales will begin as early as January 12.
