Former White House strategist Stephen Bannon stepping down from Breitbart News

As of Tuesday, it appears Bannon has given up the conn as Executive Chairman of Breitbart rather than scuttle the ship in his ongoing battle with the White House.

The comments drew a furious response from President Trump, who said Bannon "had lost his mind".

In a written statement, Trump distanced himself from Bannon and downplayed any role that he had in his election. "I just don't think there's any way back". Bannon's time in the White House also ended last August after Kelly was appointed. Others say he encouraged Breitbart to engage in nativism and racism. When he left the White House a year later, Bannon returned to Breitbart, which he had called a "platform for the alt-right".

On Monday, Wolff told MSNBC that in Bannon's comments to him, "Don Jr.'s name come up again and again" and that Bannon's remarks regarding treason and lack of patriotism were "not directed at Manafort, they were directed directly at Don Jr". Bannon did not apologize for his criticism of the president's daughter and son-in-law, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, with whom he had squabbled inside the West Wing.

Bannon is quoted in the book severely criticising the president and described one meeting between Trump's team and a Russian lawyer as "treacherous". "When he was sacked, he not only lost his job, he lost his mind".

Michael Wolff is a total loser who made up stories in order to sell this really boring and untruthful book.

"Breitbart News has chose to end its relationship with Stephen K. Bannon, therefore he will no longer host on SiriusXM since our programming agreement is with Breitbart News", SiriusXM said in a brief statement.

Trump aides immediately dismissed him as disloyal while the president took to Twitter to rail against "Sloppy Steve".

Anyone who listened to Steve Bannon host the Breitbart News morning show on Sirius XM heard listeners affectionately refer to him as "Commander", asking his permission to take the conn. Its political philosophy was amplified by Trump when he announced his candidacy in 2015, although Breitbart steered a relatively even line during the early primaries between Trump and Republican challenger Ted Cruz, the Mercers' preferred candidate.

But those projects might require fundraising and Bannon, through his falling-out with Trump, has alienated the billionaire Mercer clan, which would have been his most natural source of financial support.
