Falcons fall to Eagles 15-10, ending Atlanta's playoff run

The win was secured when Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan's pass to wide receiver Julio Jones fell incomplete in the end zone on fourth-and-goal from the 2-yard line with 58 seconds remaining.

Atlanta managed only 10 first-half points, both coming off Philadelphia turnovers, and lost 15-10 to the Eagles on Saturday.

As a result of the Eagles' victory there will be a new NFC champion, and Philadelphia will make its first appearance in the NFC Championship Game since the 2008 season. The sixth-seeded Falcons finish the year with an 11-7 record.

The Falcons have more team speed than maybe any team in the NFL and the Eagles will have to play disciplined football to be able to contain the Falcons offense. The Falcons also gifted the Eagles 63 yards worth of pass interference calls of their own.

But on fourth and goal, Jones slipped and was unable to haul in Ryan's desperate pass, leaving the Eagles to run down the clock for the win. "There's a lot on the line, we're aware of that, but at the same time you can't put too much pressure on yourself". Foles would lead them back into field goal range, however, and help the Eagles go up 12-10.

Falcons' Offense: Atlanta QB Matt Ryan was efficient last week against the Rams, finishing with 200-plus yards completing 21-of-30 throws. "We finished, what, two years in a row [losing] in the Super Bowl and the second round of the playoffs". That's the life that you kind of live as a competitor. "When you don't get that result, it's hard".

For the first time in playoff history, a No. 1 seed is an underdog.

The Eagles had used a dominant rushing attack on a long drive to take the lead earlier in the 2nd quarter.

The two teams exchanged punts before Foles engineered an 86-yard, 14-play drive for an Eagles touchdown.

Nick Foles of the Philadelphia Eagles celebrates. Safety Keanu Neal recovered on the Atlanta 26-yard line.

This is the first time the Falcons and Eagles have met in the playoffs since following the 2004 season.

Despite being the top seed in their conference, the Eagles find themselves as underdogs entering today's game due to the absence of star quarterback Carson Wentz, who suffered a season-ending knee injury previous year. But Philly got three field goals from Jake Elliott and a touchdown run from LeGarrette Blount.

Philadelphia snatched control of the game by outmanning Atlanta in the trenches and took a five-point lead with about six minutes to play on a short field goal. Ryan somehow kept his balance before taking a big hit as he unloaded the pass, which was the 20th postseason touchdown pass of his career.

Falcons coach Dan Quinn could have opted to take the wind in the fourth quarter after deferring on the opening coin toss.
