Everton are 'resigned' to losing Ross Barkley, says Sam Allardyce

Danny Higginbotham says Ross Barkley would be the ideal signing for Chelsea

Barkley has yet to play this season after having hamstring surgery following a training injury but is now approaching match fitness.

Tottenham Hotspur have also harboured a long-standing interest in Barkley, but sources have told ESPN FC that they are not prepared to rival Chelsea for his signature in January as they pursue other targets favoured by Mauricio Pochettino.

Ross Barkley is due to undergo a medical with Chelsea today ahead of a £15m move from Everton after Tottenham ended their pursuit of the midfielder.

He is out of contract at the end of the season and Toffees boss Sam Allardyce admitted on Thursday the club are "resigned to losing him".

According to reports Chelsea are expected to strike a £15m deal with the Toffees for the England worldwide, whose contract at Goodison Park concludes at the end of this season.

Barkley was linked with a move to Stamford Bridge throughout the summer but now finally looks set to join the current Premier League champions.

"I would expect there would be sometime in this window if there is going to be any interest from some of the big boys", he said.

'I think the club was resigned before I got here that they were going to lose Ross.

"I can't see that changing".

Koeman stated at the end of the last campaign that he expected the midfielder to leave over the summer and signed Davy Klaassen, Wayne Rooney and Gylfi Sigurdsson as players who could replace Barkley in his team.
