Barca loan Brazilian Rafinha to Inter Milan

Rafinha Barcelona 2016-17

In a statement, Barcelona revealed Inter "have an option to purchase the player for 35 million euros ($43m) plus three million euros in variables, which must be confirmed before the end of the current season".

The 24-year-old returned to action as a substitute during Wednesday's Copa del Rey defeat to Espanyol following a second serious knee injury in as many seasons.

The Serie A heavyweights are poised to take a man with two worldwide caps to his name on an agreement which includes the option for a €35m transfer to be pushed through if they secure Champions League qualification.

Luciano Spalletti's side are now fourth in the Serie A, behind league leaders, Napoli, Juventus and Lazio.

Speaking to Diario Sport, he commented on the transfer: "Rafinha's objective is just to play, it's hard for him to do that at Barcelona".

Before that his last action came on April 2 past year, when he picked up the injury against Granada.

"I spoke to him about his injury and my opinion was that he needs to play minutes and in Barcelona it would be complicated after our last market movements".

"There are a lot of good players [in his position] and it's been a similar way for five years now". Rafinha hopes to regain his form with Inter in order to join the Brazil squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation. "He's going to take advantage of this chance in Italy".

"Rafinha has a contract with Barcelona until 2020".

However, with the signings of Paulinho and Philippe Coutinho, and the emergence of Barca B midfielder Carles Alena, Ernesto Valverde is happy to let him leave this month. He spent the 2013-14 season on loan at Celta Vigo.
