Australian Open 2018: Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic Highlight Thursday Results

Will Ferrell Roger Federer and John McEnroe

While the 19-time grand slam champion immediately started fidgeting, he held his own and delivered a Burgundy-like response while the crowd laughed.

Ferrell conducted his press conference alongside Courier and gave the popular Channel 7 commentator some tips for his post-match on-court interviews from the mind of his Anchorman character Ron Burgundy.

Will Ferrell's awkward interview with Federer after Aus Open win.

"Roger", Ferrell began. "Tonight you seemed like a - like a gazelle out there on the court".

WF: It is delicious - the national food of Australia.

"I know the big player he (Federer) is". At an older age it's easy to forget sometimes, it's great. You know maybe how he meant it, don't make him pay so badly for a mistake. Despite enjoying his game - and 6-4 6-4 7-6 (4) win over Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff in the second round - in conditions many others would have loved to, Federer appeared to have been drained during the 1 hour 55-minute encounter.

If you look at the revenue, the sharing process, it's not quite where it's supposed to be, but you can't go from here to right there in a day. "I've practised with him [Struff], and played against him in doubles and singles", said Federer, in an on-court interview with former World No. 1 Jim Courier.

There was a shock in the women's event earlier in the day with British number one Johanna Konta, who reached the semi-finals of last year's tournament, losing to world number 123 Bernarda Pera of the United States 6-4, 7-5.

"I think I deserve to smile out there after that victory".

"I honestly can't complain - the ATP is doing a nice job and there's a lot of physios and communication going on from officials towards us players".

"I was thinking a lot about what happened at the tournament a year ago because it was my favourite tournament of the whole was such a surprise", Federer said. It seemed to physically pain him to not say "Bedene is a great player and this crowd is awesome", but that only added to the charm of the interview. Ferrell asked. "Maybe not. I was a bit scared", he said. I am happy to stay in the same routine.
