Young man meets 81-year-old he befriended on 'Words with Friends'

Spencer and Roz

They first met playing Words With Friends, and over the course of a year and more than 300 games they became good friends. After that, they went on to play over 300 more games together.

"She came to me weeks later and asked me how would I be interested in going to Florida for a day to meet her", Spencer told FOX 5. A Scrabble-like gaming app, players can be matched up with either pre-existing friends or strangers, and Guttman and Sleyon-then strangers-were paired up.

"Sometimes we'd speak about personal things, but nothing extra personal", he said.

But the pair have formed an unlikely friendship through their Words With Friends battles.

At least one Twitter user who responded had a similar story, pointing to the ability of the game that was developed in 2009 by social game developer Zynga to bring word enthusiasts together over miles of coastline or even oceans. Sleyon told Washington, D.C.

Sleyon was game. On Thursday, he and Butler traveled from NY to West Palm Beach so that he could finally have words with his friend.

Pastor Amy Butler of The Riverside Church, who accompanied Spencer on his first ever trip to Florida, reacted on Twitter as well.

Sleyon is happy that his meeting with Guttman has touched people.

Added the rapper: "Whatever people want to take from this story and however it makes them feel, I'm just glad and Rosalind and I can bring that to people".
