Two arrested for killings of four in Troy

Justin Mann and James White have been charged in the savage slayings of two women and two children in Troy

Police say two people have been arrested in the quadruple homicide that took the lives of two women and two children in their upstate NY apartment.

Justin Mann and James White-both from Schenectady, New York-pled not guilty to murder charges December 30 in Troy. Both men plead not guilty to the homicide. Both men face one count of first-degree murder and four counts of second-degree murder; they could spend the rest of their lives in prison. She said the whole family is heartbroken over the brutal crime.

A preliminary hearing for Mann and White is scheduled for January 4. It wasn't until Tuesday, five days later, that a property manager found 36-year-old Shanta Myers; her children, 11-year-old Jeremiah Myers and 5-year-old Shanise Myers; and 22-year-old Brandi Mells in a basement apartment along the Hudson River, just north of Albany.

A little closure possibly provided for Khalif Coleman, the nephew of Shanta Myers.

Myers also had a 15-year-old, Isaiah Smith, who was out of town on a retreat when the slayings unfolded in his Troy home.

Isaiah, who was away in MA, said he was scared that the suspects were "coming for [him] next". "I fell down to the ground right in the bathroom and cried thinking who would've done this?"

A local Albany newspaper reported, John Tedesco, Troy Police Chief said one of the defendants knew one of the victims.

"After being in this business for nearly 42 years, I can't describe the savagery of this".

"I don't have to tell you what a good feeling it is to have these two in custody", said Tedesco. "There are indications at the crime scene that this was not a random act". Mells and Myers were reportedly in a relationship.
