Tight security, orderliness at PDP convention

Despite tight security around the Eagle Square venue of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention, petty traders, hawkers of PDP souvenirs and praise singers from several states turned the political gathering into a carnival-like event.

Before the commencement of the National Convention, Chief Olabode George, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Jimi Agbaje and Senator Rashidi Ladoja had withdrawn from the contest for various reasons as earlier reported by The Eagle Online.

The party also said that Osun state is equally excluded and would not participate in the national convention while Anambra state was still being considered, following the disagreements among members in the state.

"In reacting to revelations of how money-for-votes and systematic rigging was brazenly perpetuated during the national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Congress (APC) is mindful of the popular axiom: "A leopard can not change its spot", the statement read.

"Now we must unite as a party to secure the TRUST of the Nigerian people again because under the APC Nigeria is not working and our people are not working".

The comments by the APC follow comments by the newly elected National Chairman of the PDP, Mr Uche Secondus, who verbally served the APC a "quit notice", while delivering his acceptance speech.

"First of all, I can tell you that we are happy with Atiku coming back to the PDP". We see this as a signal that come 2019, such attitude will continue whereby PDP candidates will use looted funds to canvass for votes.
