Sango, PDP chieftain kidnapped

Damishi Sango

Damishi Sango, the state chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), in Plateau has reportedly been kidnapped alongside his son.

Confirming incident, the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP Plateau State John Akans called on the security agencies to ensure the unconditional and safe release of the State party chairman and his entourage.

A source close to Sango said his (Sango) phone was used in contacting a chieftain of the party in Abuja to demand for the ransom.

Sango, it was further learnt was on his way to Abuja to attend his party's national convention slated to hold on Saturday, December 9.

"Yes, it is true, the abductors of Hon Damishi T. Sango are demanding a ransom of N100m", he said.

A family member, Mr Jonathan Mapis, who spoke on the issue, said that the victims were abducted "around 5.30 p.m".

Asked if he suspected whether the incident had any link with the PDP convention or if the abductors were Fulani herdsmen, Akans said it could be the normal case of kidnapping as there was insecurity in the country.

Sango was abducted alongside a one-time factional state Chairman of the PDP in Pateau State, Emmanuel Mangni.

The party spokesman disclosed that the jeep belonging to the former minister had been found by security agents with two telephones belonging to his son that was kidnapped along with him. From what they demanded, we are waiting to see whether they will come down from tomorrow.

Tyopev said that the Plateau Police Command had reached out to the Kaduna Command on the matter.

The sad incident happened along Jere Road in Kaduna state.
