Person killed in Bay Bridge toll booth crash

Two people were killed and others injured Saturday morning in a multi-vehicle wreck at the Bay Bridge Toll Plaza that resulted in massive traffic delays, authorities said.

According to East Bay Times, it is believed that a second death was caused by the crash, but the exact details are unclear.

The CHP told KTVU that the crash involved a box truck and a cashier at the toll booth.

"We haven't developed any indication of that", CHP officer Vu Williams said. The attendant inside the booth was killed, and the truck driver and a passenger were ejected from the vehicle. The truck driver was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

A sig alert was issued, and several westbound lanes at the toll plaza was blocked.

The truck, described as a medium-sized rental box truck, slammed into the back of at least one line of vehicles waiting at the toll plaza, causing a chain reaction, Williams said. Williams said the lanes would remain closed for much of the day. What caused the crash is also now under investigation.

Capitol Corridor bus service from Emeryville to San Francisco is also on hold because of the crash, the agency said on Twitter.

Gov. Jerry Brown says in a statement the victim was 46-year-old California Department of Transportation employee Si Si Han.
