Nokia 9 might turn out to have rather powerful dual cameras

The Oreo update brings in some new and hidden changes to the Nokia camera app.

Files inside the APK package show that the current version of Nokia Camera (8.0200.20) supports telephoto camera mode with 2X (2 times) optical zoom and has a wideangle mode. This means that HMD could potentially pack a more powerful camera hardware in the 9, which is also expected considering the 9 should be higher priced and overall better than the 8. Another possibility is the Nokia 5 in 2018 will come with dual camera sensors. The Nokia 9 likely to be launched in January next year and we can expect the new Nokia Camera app to be preloaded on the device. The Nokia 5 only comes with a single 13-megapixel camera on its back. The Nokia 8 features an RGB color camera sensor and a monochrome black & white sensor, neither of them comes with a telephoto lens.

If we take a look at some renders and the leaked dimensions, it's noticeable that the camera bump on Nokia 9 is significantly bigger than the one on Nokia 8. Both Apple and Samsung are using the telephoto+wide combo for their own flagship smartphone cameras. At first, it was made available for Nokia 8 which later also received the stable update in November. The cameras are expected to be equipped with either a 12MP or a 13MP sensors. Under the hood, the smartphone runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset with 3GB RAM + 16GB storage which can be further expanded to 128GB via microSD card. Well, there have been indications that HMD will be holding a product launch event in China on January 19th. The Nokia 9 and the 2018 version of the Nokia 6 were recently certified by 3C, the Chinese counterpart of the FCC, according to XDA. No dual camera phone at the moment can shoot both telephoto and wide angle, so its odd that the camera app has both modes.
