Modi inaugurates Ambedkar International Centre in Delhi, recalls Baba Saheb's contribution

BR Ambedkar 61st death anniversary Ram Nath Kovind Narendra Modi pay tributes to Baba Saheb

Modi, who laid the foundation stone of the centre in April 2015, dedicated it to the nation, saying it will play "a key role" in the dissemination of Ambedkar's teachings and vision. He will also launch the Dr Ambedkar International Centre for Socio-Economic Transformation (DAICSET). Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said the centre will work as a think-tank in analyzing socio-economic issues of the country, which will help in determining the ways of achieving inclusive growth of India. He said people of the country were indebted to Dr Ambedkar for giving a new direction to the country.

The PM said the government had developed five places associated with Ambedkar into pilgrimage spots.

Such was the incredible strength of Ambedkar that his philosophy and contribution in nation building could not be erased despite the efforts of some people, the prime minister said in his address. These sites in Delhi, Mumbai, Nagpur, Mhow and London were like a homage from the present generation, he said.

"But I see hope in today's generation...."

"We had said that in one year we will build toilets for girls in all government schools, we have already constructed over 4 lakh such facilities".

Mr Modi also lamented that Ambedkar's dream of social democracy - where all have a say - is still unaccomplished. He said, efforts are being made to ensure that every poor has his house by 2022 under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

Aimed at encouraging research and original thinking among the youth, the centre is a fusion of Buddhist and present day architecture. He spoke at length about other schemes including distribution of soil health cards, Mission Indradhanush and progress towards rural electrification targets, to show the speed and commitment of the Union Government in implementing public welfare initiatives.

The Prime Minister also mentioned programmes were taking off the ground either on time or ahead of the deadline.

"At 11 AM tomorrow, I will inaugurate the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre at 15 Janpath, Delhi".
