Littlehampton bank to close next year

Closures will put 1,000 jobs at risk

Transactions at the NatWest Oundle branch have fallen by 29 per cent since 2012 with only 58 customers now visiting the branch on a weekly basis.

The branch on High Street in Harpenden will close on Tuesday, May 22, 2018; the branch on Watling Street in Radlett will close on Tuesday, June 12.

Lloyds blamed the closures on changing customer habits with more people choosing to bank digitally and via their mobiles.

British banks are set to close a record 762 branches this year, Reuters reported in August, drawing criticism for depriving customers of access to in-person services, particularly in poorer parts of the country.

We are communicating with our customers affected by the closure and proactively contacting vulnerable customers and regular branch users.

The Oundle branch will close on June 21 next year and the Stamford branch will shut on May 17 next year.

"Other options available to customers include mobile, telephony, web chat, cash machines, video banking and everyday banking services that can be done at post offices".

As part of this, our new Community Banker provides customers with personal assistance and support to access our non-cash services, as well as help with achieving their financial plans and goals - replicating numerous services available in our branches.

Jane Howard, RBS's managing director of branch banking, said that customers are increasingly using mobile and online channels rather than bricks-and-mortar branches, and RBS had to react to that. Now 88 per cent of customers bank in other ways locally.

The Laughton Road bank is one of 197 NatWest branches earmarked for closure by RBS, which will also slash 62 Royal Bank of Scotland branches. Details of these can be found at, by calling 03457 888 444 or speaking to a member of staff.
