His successor, Mauricio Pellegrini, has just one win and six points from Southampton's last eight Premier League games.

Last season Puel led Saints to 8th spot, a League Cup final, and a memorable Europa League victory over Inter Milan, however his style of play was deemed too tiresome and negative, costing him his job at St Mary's. It is still the first part of the season and the Premier League is hard every week.

The Frenchman can expect a mixed reception at St Mary's with his achievement in leading Saints to a rare place in the League Cup final not matched by the patchy league form which led to his departure.

Pellegrino will now be targeting a third home win in five matches, but standing in his way is former Saint Puel.

It's four less than Claude Puel achieved at the helm this time previous year, who was relieved of his duties despite finishing in a respectable 8th place, due to boring football seeing The Saints score the sixth-least goals in the division.

Their thrilling 3-2 victory away to Newcastle United on Saturday has left the Foxes unbeaten in their last four games and will fancy their chances against a Southampton side that last picked up all three points towards the end of November.

'Of course it was a odd feeling to come back here. It will be unusual going back to the St Mary's Stadium but it will be nice to see some familiar faces of course.

"Other people decided to make comments about our play, about results or other things", he said.

'I said before the game, my feeling was always to keep chasing for positive results when I was at Southampton, ' said Puel. "I think that is very important for a manager". It was a great moment.

"Our challenge now is to maintain our high level of performances on the pitch as we start a busy period with all these games, and it is crucial that we keep ourselves fresh every time we play".

'It was nice to see familiar faces, we had kept a good understanding and good relationship with a lot of people, players and staff.

Puel's Leicester head into the game priced at 3/1 to grab the win, with Saints available at 11/20, while a draw can be backed at 5/2.
