Jose Mourinho hints at "deserved" opportunity for Luke Shaw

Jose Mourinho hints at

Manchester United are three points ahead of Basel and CSKA Moscow in group A. The Red Devils will host the Russian side at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

I suspect Mauricio Pochettino is getting a bit frustrated with a few players and I think Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen will get rested.

Two players who are set to start are Paul Pogba and Sergio Romero.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been drawing attention with the performances he showcased after his return, following a seven-month lay-off owing to a terrible injury.

"Zlatan is not injured", the boss told a press conference.

"We have problems, we have injuries".

'Zlatan is not injured, ' Mourinho said.

'We didn't qualify yet and I need to keep a certain balance in the team. Other clubs are also involved. "More importantly, the other guys deserve an opportunity to play".

On the topic of Pogba, he said, "Of course, he's a bit exhausted because it was a huge match at the weekend and just two days to recover for CSKA. He plays tomorrow", Mourinho said.

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof has been buoyed by his recent performances and insists he has already learned a lot since joining the club for in excess of £30m in the summer, but there is still more learning to be done.

"Zlatan needs sometimes hard work on the muscular area that supports the knee". "When he works really hard on that, he gets fatigue and you can not play with fatigue".

"He's on that cycle of work now, divided between gym and pitch. He will be out again for tomorrow, but I believe he will be back to normal work after CSKA".

It should never have come to this after the 20-time English champions won their first four Group A matches, but it would be safe to assume that they will be present when the draw for the last-16 stage of the tournament is made.

Luke Shaw will be named in the squad but Mourinho is still debating whether to give the left back a first start of the season.

'When you speak about Luke you are right, he's working for an opportunity. Because he deserves that opportunity.

"Selected tomorrow - for sure". If he starts I'd be backing him to score, especially with Leigh Griffiths going off the boil.

As far as the visitors are concerned, Viktor Goncharenko will be without Pontus Wernbloom and Bibras Natcho, who are serving a one-match ban, while Georgi Schennikov (ankle) and Aleksei Berezutski (calf) are on the treatment table.
