Jeffrey Tambor Departs 'Transparent' Amid Sexual Harassment Allegations

A final decision about the actor's future with the series has not yet been determined as Amazon Studios continues to investigate harassment claims around its star

After Tambor was accused of harassment by a former assistant and an actress on the show, the Emmy victor issued a statement saying, "Given the politicized atmosphere that seems to have afflicted our set, I don't see how I can return to 'Transparent'". But no final decision for next year has been made, either by Jeffrey or by Amazon, ' Allan Mayer, his publicist said to the New York Times.

ET reached out to Tambor's rep for clarification.

Creator and EP Jill Soloway said she would not discuss the recent accusations against Tambor while speaking on a panel at Vulture Fest L.A. Van Barnes, Tambor's former assistant, alleges that Tambor groped her, and Trace Lysette, who plays Shea in the series, subsequently accused Tambor of rubbing his dick against her as well as making unwelcome sexual remarks. What has become clear over the past weeks, however, is that this is no longer the job I signed up for four years ago, ' he said in a statement at the time. At the time the allegations were made, Tambor vehemently denied them, referring to them as "baseless". He later apologized to his co-star on that show, saying "I am deeply sorry if any action of mine was ever misinterpreted by anyone as being sexually aggressive or if I ever offended or hurt anyone". But one of the show's writers and producers publicly supported the accusers, and eventually, Tambor released the statement referenced above. Yet a representative for the actor disclosed to The Times recently that, in fact, Mr. Tambor had no plans to quit.

"My back was against the wall in a corner as Jeffrey approached me", Ms. Lysette said in her statement on Thursday.

According to the Deadline report, Amazon had not yet picked up Tambor's option for a fifth season yet, leaving the door open for his character to be written out amid this developing situation.

The NYT article alleges that the uncertainty around Tambor's position on the show is unsurprisingly causing a great deal of drama on how they will proceed.

Tambor won two Emmy awards for his portrayal of Maura Pfefferman.
