Iraq Summons US Ambassador over Jerusalem Decision

Iraq demanded on Thursday that the U.S. government backtrack on a decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital and summoned the USA ambassador in Baghdad to protest the decision.

Kashmir's chief Muslim cleric and separatist leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, said, "President Trump's unilateral, dictatorial and unjust decision is shocking".

On Wednesday, Donald Trump officially announced his decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, where he plans to relocate the US Embassy.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said he warned Trump of the "dangerous consequences" of such a move on security, the peace process, and stability in the region.

Nujaba, which has about 10,000 fighters, is one of the most important militias in Iraq. Though made up of Iraqis, it is loyal to Iran and is helping Tehran create a supply route through Iraq to Damascus.

Turkey, a US and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation ally, threatened to sever ties with Israel if the USA were to make such a declaration and the Palestinians said they would cut off contact with their USA government liaisons, CBS News reported.

Trump's defiant move - fulfilling a pledge made during his 2016 presidential campaign - ends seven decades of United States ambiguity on the status of the Holy City, which is vociferously claimed by both Israelis and Palestinians. The president admitted the move will cause dissent, but says it could help resolve the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Reacting to Wednesday's Washington speech, hundreds of Palestinians burned U.S. and Israeli flags as well as pictures of Trump in the Gaza Strip, while small clashes erupted near the flashpoint West Bank city of Hebron.

Palestinian have demanded that part of Jerusalem be set aside as their capital and the global community has traditionally view Tel Aviv as the capital of Israel.
