Instagram Introduces Stories Highlights and Stories Archive Features

Instagram launches biggest change to profiles in years, adding new stories and archive features

Though the company (which could go months on end without significant app updates prior to Stories) has been spinning out new features for more than a year now, updates have barely touched profiles.

Market Pulse Stories are Rapid-fire, short news bursts on stocks and markets as they move.

Users will have the option to cancel the search, proceed with it and see the posts they were looking for, or learn more about the problem. But there are more substantial changes than that too, and the features together offer major changes to the way that the recently introduced stories feature works.

Only you can see your archive, and you can turn off the feature if you want your Story to disappear as usual.

To check out your expired stories, tap the archive icon in the top-right corner of your profile.

Now they can be saved into the pre-existing archive for later on.

Each of the updates adds new appeal to Story content - not only does it give your Stories added value, but it gives you an additional way to spruce up your profile.

That helps with the new Highlights feature, meant to show off stories that might otherwise be missed.

It's that sentiment that has driven the biggest Instagram profile update since 2013: as of December 5, users will be able to keep their Stories forever using the new Archive function - and display the ones they're oh so proud of in a brand-new section at the top of each user's profile called Highlights. "Once you're done, your highlight will appear as a circle on your profile that plays as a stand-alone story when someone taps it", the company explains.

To create a highlight for your profile, tap the "New" circle on the left side of your profile, choose something from your archive, select a cover for your highlight, and give it a name. There, you'll be able to easily switch between your posts archive and stories archive.
