Washtenaw Salvation Army's Angel Trees aim to give gifts to 850 kids

Giant Food Stores are helping to combat hunger this holiday season, with donations to the Salvation Army.

Donations are collected in red kettles around Fort Wayne. Captain Charles Adams gives us the background of the Salvation Army in New Haven and the campaign. For the 12th straight year, Red Wings Executive Vice President and General Manager Ken Holland will serve as the Honorary Chairman of the 2017 Red Kettle Campaign.

It's a job he takes a lot of pride in.

"I have had this happen to me before and I know how cool it is for the families to receive it", said another woman.

Baldwin suffered a stroke in 2006 and has been in a wheelchair ever since.

The location of those donations was not disclosed, but the Salvation Army estimated their value at $240.

"I just don't really know how to say how fantastic this is to the people that get it", said one woman.

It's a small percentage with a big potential impact. still, Clark says charitable giving has withstood tax code changes before.

Funds have been trickling in while the need continues to increase.

For Baldwin, it's all about spreading joy for a good cause. "That makes you feel like you're out here doing something worthwhile".

THE Isle of Wight Council and the Salvation Army are calling for volunteers to help the homeless this winter.

Major John Martin who received the gifts on behalf of The Salvation Army commented: "We are so grateful to St. Andrew's School for providing gifts as part of our Christmas Appeal".
