The Formula One legend addressed fans in the clip as he said, "I'm so sad right now", before turning the camera on his three-year-old nephew.

Lewis then turned the camera on his nephew, who looked over the moon waving a wand and wearing a purple and pink dress with a tulle skirt. Hamilton then questioned the child why he had asked for the dress before shouting, "Boys don't wear princess dresses!" "Is this what you got for Christmas?" he asks. Lewis Hamilton has come in for criticism online over a video he shared on Instagram yesterday.

A representative for Hamilton did not immediately respond to HuffPost's request for comment.

The 32-year-old was overseas celebrating Christmas with his family when he posted the video. "Look at my nephew".

Even though the video is no longer available, it still managed to circulate around social media, sparking major backlash.

In a since-deleted Snapchat video, the Formula One driver called out the young boy for not following gender norms, reports the New York Post. "It takes for the people to try standing together".

And one user reminded Hamilton he's made enough of his own fashion faux pas that maybe he shouldn't judge anyone else's choices.

Hamilton, who previously dated Nicole Scherzinger and has been romantically linked to Kendall Jenner, Rihanna and Heidi Klum, has sparked controversy on social media before.
