First look at Jessica Chastain in X-Men: Dark Phoenix

EW Unveils Fiery First Look At Sophie Turner's Jean Grey In X-Men Dark Phoenix

Dark Phoenix, her own spinoff movie partially based on the comic by Chris Claremont, gives an even deeper look at her character's uncontrollable, and sometimes destructive, telepathic abilities.

It's unclear if that's the extent of the space travel in Dark Phoenix, but there's plenty of it in the comics.

"Dark Phoenix" moves the story forward another decade, set in 1992, where the X-Men are beloved heroes now.

Entertainment Weekly has today unveiled a fiery first peek at Sophie Turner's Jean Grey as she'll appear in X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the star-studded 2018 blockbuster coming by way of Simon Kinberg (The Twilight Zone).

It's also confirmed that Jean Grey will become the Phoenix (naturally), and the movie will be a "fight for her soul" that "splits the X-Men".

Now almost 10 years after Last Stand and well into the golden age of superhero movies, X-Men is having its second try at the Dark Phoenix saga with X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Kinberg's directorial debut. In fact, Charles Xavier lands on the cover of TIME magazine, and with his newfound inflated ego he starts sending the team on more risky missions. The newest photo from the superhero franchise, released by Entertainment Weekly, teases Turner as young Jean, literally bursting in flames, with sparks flaring out from the cracks on her skin. Writer/producer Simon Kinberg, a longtime staple of the X-Men franchise, steps into the director's chair for the first time on this film, revealing to EW that it was Jennifer Lawrence who most pushed him to make the jump to directing.

That dog, one imagines, is Jean Grey/Phoenix, and Chastain's character likely advocates killing her entirely rather than trying to bring Jean Grey back. In the next movie, out November 2, 2018, the X-Men team is dispatched to space for a rescue mission. "There's a lot of sacrifice and a lot of suffering".

Turner said "It's about the butterfly effect of this thing happening". "What happens when the person you love the most falls into darkness?"
