So far, private citizens run the risk of being locked out of access to their own bank accounts if they do not link them with Aadhaar by December 31.

Eralier, quoting a government official PTI reported that the government will give additional three-six months to link the biometric identifier Aadhaar with PAN in case the Supreme Court rules in its favour.

The Centre on Thursday informed Supreme Court that deadline to link Aadhaar Card with various schemes will be extended till March 31, 2018.

The government has made it mandatory for verifying bank account and PAN to weed out black money and bring unaccounted wealth to book. Aadhaar card can be linked, with the customers' mobile banking to the bank accounts. "Therefore, it is clear that the video is outdated because it does not reflect the latest legal position as on today (December 7, 2017)", the statement said. He had said such people would not be denied the benefits of social welfare schemes till 31 March.

Bank account: According to the available information, the deadline for the banks to link the account of the customer with their Aadhaar is December 31, 2017.

The Supreme Court will be setting up a five-judge Constitution Bench next week to hear several pleas seeking an interim stay on the Centre's decision of mandatory linking of Aadhaar. Interim orders may be passed next week.

Subsequent to the Act, notifications have been issued making Aadhaar mandatory for availing various welfare benefits such as public distribution services (PDS), cooking gas LPG, MNREGS, scholarships and pensions. This year, the government made the quoting of Aadhaar mandatory for filing income tax returns (ITRs) as well as obtaining a new PAN.

Also there is no change in the deadlines set for verifying bank accounts and PAN cards.
