Court Documents: Mariah Woods sexually abused by mom's boyfriend

Mariah Woods: 1st Video Of Man Charged With Disappearance Revealed — See Earl Kimrey

FBI investigators recovered remains believed to be those of 3-year-old Mariah Woods on Saturday, and her mother's boyfriend has been charged in connection with her death.

He was arrested late Friday and charged with concealing a death, obstruction of justice, second-degree burglary, larceny and possession of stolen property. The suspect had his first day in court on December 4, for a hearing in Jacksonville, where a judge ordered that his bond remain at $1 million. The girl's body was found last weekend miles from her home in Onslow County.

Two candlelit vigils are being held in Mariah's honor this week, with the first of them having occurred Tuesday night.

A court document reveals that Mariah Kay Woods, the 3-year-old who was the subject of an Amber Alert that garnered national attention, may have been sexually abused by her mother's live-in boyfriend. "The defendant acted with deceit and intent to fraud".

State arrest records show that Kimrey previously had been charged with larceny, assault, and drunk and disorderly conduct.

As the memorial grew, many in the community were still searching for answers in Mariah's death.

An autopsy was performed Monday on the little girl. On Tuesday, at the growing makeshift memorial for Mariah, John McMichael placed hand-carved angel wings in her memory.

"It's impacting our children", community member Anna Rust said.

Some who helped search for Mariah earlier in the week came to the growing memorial Sunday to pay their respects. "Honestly, I only went out there because I hoped someone would do the same for me if it was my child", said Joann Kasper.

As investigators continue to gather evidence in the case, people in the community are leaning on one another for support.

"It's honestly hard to describe that taking one step to make that sign that the community and the entire country has come out in abundance to show this lovely little girl how much we really do love her", Wiles said. The disappearance of three-year-old Mariah Kay Woods resulted in a five-day search with participants from the Onslow County Sheriff's Office (OCSO), the Federal Bureau of Investigation and hundreds of local residents that volunteered their time.

"We drive by the house everyday to take her to preschool, pick her up from preschool", said Tiana Purdy who had to explain the entire story of the search and recovery to her daughter.
