Ashley Young charged with violent conduct following Dusan Tadic elbow

Ashley Young facing suspension for pointless incident with Dusan Tadic

Referee Craig Pawson failed to spot Young elbowing Dusan Tadic in the stomach, during the second half of United's 0-0 draw with Southampton on Saturday.

Young is likely to receive a three-match ban for the incident, which is a similar fate to the one Burnley's James Tarkowski earned earlier this month after he admitted elbowing Brighton forward Glenn Murray. He's expected to miss Premier League matches with Everton and Stoke City, as well as a 3rd round FA Cup match with Derby County.

The alleged incident took place during Swans' 2-1 win at Vicarage Road on Saturday, 30 December.

Young has until 5pm today to respond to the charge.

They would also exit the Carabao Cup at the hands of Championship side Bristol City with a strong side and are now on a three-game drawing streak with the likes of Leicester, Burnley and Southampton holding the Red Devils.

United also have Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic injuries to contend with as they aim to catch Manchester City at the top of the table and, perhaps more realistically, avoid being overtaken by the chasing pack of Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham.
