Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger: 'Shkodran Mustafi an injury doubt for Saints clash'

The Germany worldwide sustained the "minor thigh problem" in the lead-up to Manchester United's second goal in just the 11th of the game last weekend.

The Gunners were beaten 3-1 by Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday evening. "We have just a small problem with Mustafi from Saturday, but everybody else looks alright".

The Germany worldwide would have been highly unlikely to feature against BATE anyway with his sole Europa League appearance in 2017-18 to date coming in the original clash with the Belarusian champions back in September. "It's [Mustafi being back for the Southampton game] a possibility - if not Southampton, it will be [for] West Ham".

Arsenal have already progressed to the last-32 of the Europa League with the top spot, but they still have something to play for after having dropped points in each of the last two European matches.

He spent the last campaign on loan at Bournemouth in an attempt to get regular match action but has only played 65 minutes of Premier League football this season.

When asked his views on Wilshere's family trip to an open air ice-skating rink this week Wenger replied: "It's not ideal. Some experienced players need competition so we will play quite an experienced team".

The only player, apart from long-term absentee Santi Cazorla, who has is struggling with an injury is Shkodran Mustafi. Leave him at home? That's what I was told. He had a test on Friday morning, then even when he went to the game we weren't sure if he would play.

"But he tried and he played".
