Though the police have said that the case appears to be that of a suicide, Rizwan's family believes it is a murder as the crime scene was just outside the house of a female friend of his. A country made pistol was also found in the right hand of the deceased.

The girl, whose house the bag was dropped at, is also a hockey player and a known to Khan; but she was not present in the city at the time when the incident occurred.

No suicide note has been found in the vehicle, police said.

Rizwan's brother Riyazuddin Khan accused the girl's family of lying to them when they enquired about Rizwan on Monday.

Romil told HT that it was unclear what transpired in the time between when he left his friend's house until the time his body was found.

"He left our (Rizwan) home noon on Monday". Colony residents and Khan's friend, who had left for Bhopal for a tournament, will also be questioned, said the police. When he called his son in the evening, the phone was not reachable, but an alternate number was picked up by a female person who did not reveal any details to him. One was found switched off, while the other was answered by the friend's cousin.

As per the police investigation, Rizwan's lifeless body was discovered around 10.30 am in his auto parked near his female friend's residence at Sarojini Nagar. Around 7.15 am, the woman's father called us back and gave us his home address.

Khan's father found his auto parked outside the girl's house and saw him lying in a pool of blood inside it, the police said. "For now, we don't know what happened, but it appears he was angry after not finding her at the house", said a police officer who did not wish to be named.

"We think he was killed and then the body was kept in the vehicle afterwards as there were no bloodstains inside", Shareef Khan added further.

The woman's family refused to speak to media on Tuesday.
