Tennessee State player punches coach on sideline, gets kicked off team

TSU Football Player Expelled After Violent Incident During Game

A football player at Tennessee State University was dismissed from the team and subsequently expelled from the school after he punched a coach on the sideline during a game this weekend.

Lee is a senior from Dothan, Alabama, and did not play in Saturday's 23-20 win.

Greenstone recovered somewhat from the first punch, but Lee's fist returned nearly immediately, sending the couch down to the ground.

The school, which would not even confirm the name of the student involved in the sideline incident, has not officially announced that Lee has been expelled.

It's presently unclear exactly why Lee punched Greenstone, however, according to a report in the Tennessean, part of Greenstone's job is to keep players away from the field when they're not playing in order to avoid penalties. Lee is seen in videos hitting Greenstone twice on the side of his head. And those are going to be the only games he starts in a long, long time.

Tennessee State has one regular-season game remaining in the 2017 campaign against Jacksonville State on Thursday night. He made the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2016.

Greenstone previously played for Vanderbilt from 2007-2011 and has been coaching for the Tigers for the past four seasons.
