Reports of active shooter in downtown Reno

Reno Police have detained one male suspect at the Montage Apartments in downtown Reno.

Police have said via social media the no injuries have been confirmed. TV news reporters say they heard several shots fired since arriving.

When reached by phone Tuesday night for further clarification, Broadway said he could confirm a SWAT team took the shooter into custody, but couldn't confirm the circumstances of how.

According to our sister station KRNV, police are on scene at the complex at Sierra Street and Commercial Row, where a News 4 crew reports hearing shots fired. Please continue to avoid the area while first responders continue on scene.

The hostage was removed from the room and is safe now, officials said.

Shots were heard coming from for 20 minutes, it added, citing the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The incident comes less than two months after the Las Vegas shooting, where gunman Stephan Paddock opened fire from window of the Mandalay Bay hotel into a crowd of revellers at a nearby music festival.

Police closed the surrounding area in downtown Reno following the shooting.
