Panthers WR Curtis Samuel to undergo season-ending surgery

Curtis Samuel had five catches against the Dolphins on Monday night

The injury occurred in Monday night's win over Miami.

Samuel will undergo season-ending surgery on his left ankle and consequently be placed on injured reserve, the team announced on Tuesday.

Samuel caught a season-high five passes prior to being injured. The offensive coordinator said it's going to take a collective effort. Is there anybody as fast as him? "We're going to try hard to find ways to put guys in place with what they do best, and have them go do it".

Panthers second-year wide receiver Damiere Byrd is eligible to return from injured reserve in Week 13 versus the New Orleans Saints.

Now, with Samuel out for the season, the Panthers have to turn to others to inject that much-needed speed.

Samuel's best games came in the last 2 weeks. Samuel, a second-round pick from Ohio State, had seen his role increase in the wake of the Benjamin trade.

McCaffrey, the former Stanford star, leads the team in receptions with 57 for 433 yards and three touchdowns. "That's another thing we would look at".
