She feels that one can only get into that stage when you reach a different sort of spiritual and the level of creativity and one has to reach a point where they are afraid to take the risks or failure. According to reports, 8 people have been arrested relating to the incident.

Right from the first day of its shoot, the film has been embroiled in controversies after Rajput outfit Karni Sena destroyed the film's set and slapped Bhansali while the team was shooting in Jaipur.

The members barged into the mall, which also houses a multi-screen cinema hall, and smashed the glass windows. The Bajrangi Bhaijaan actor has said that Bhansali makes wonderful films and let CBFC decide if the movie is suitable for release. The film also features Deepika Padukone in the title role as Rani Padmavati, alongside Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji.

Padmavati marks the third film that Deepika has worked in under Bhansali's direction after romantic crime drama Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela and historical drama Bajirao Mastani - all of which, she says, gave her roles "so similar, yet so different".

Deepika says that she is really proud that she is a part of the movie and she is telling the story to the people which need to be told. The director said in press conference that the attack on Bhansali is an assault on creative freedom. What have we gotten ourselves into? "It's been a pretty incredible journey", said Deepika, who says she senses a soul, heart and mind connect with the director. "Nation can progress only when it is regression from her perspective".

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy lashed out at Deepika Padukone for her "regression" comments. "Maharani Padmini is the revered mother of 125 crore Hindus in the world and her character assassination by a film is disrespect to the Hindu religion, its culture and glorious history", he said. Deepika said that the movie will release as per schedule, on December 1. Many have come in support of the film, stating that a film should be taken as a film and nothing more.
