Restrictions in Srinagar after terrorist's killing

The incident occurred in Zakura Hazratbal area of Srinagar where three militants travelling in a vehicle opened fire on a police team.

The cop killed was posted as a sub-inspector with the J&K Police.

Meanwhile, massive protests are being reported from Parimpora area of Srinagar.

The police party however, succeeded in intercepting the vehicle in which militants were travelling and arrested one terrorist, while other two others fled from the scene.

"SI had opened fire", another police officer when contacted, said. "A militant was also captured during the operation", the police official said. "We are trying to ascertain the details", he said.

A police officer who was critically injured in a firing incident at Zukura area of Srinagar has succumbed to his injuries.

"We are investigating the matter that how his body reached home and from where they receive him", official added. "The combing operation was going on", the police officer said.

However, Kashmir police chief Munir Khan confirmed that the slain militant was killed in Zakura shootout.

The slain militant was identified as Mugees Ahmad Mir alias Khatib of Ansar Ghazwat ul Hind, an Al Qaeda Kashmir cell headed by former Hizb militant Zakir Musa.

23-year-old Musa, who after parting ways from Hizbul Mujahideen and subsequently being nominated as the head of the Kashmir unit of Al-Qaeda, sits at the top of a new list of most wanted militants now operating in the valley.
