Jaguar XE SV Project 8 claims new Nurburgring lap record

Jaguar XE SV Project 8 Record

Only 300 of the so-called XE SV Project 8s will be produced. With a time of 7:21, it trumps the previous record holder-the Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio-by 11 seconds.

With a stunning 7m21.2s lap time, the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 has become the world's fastest production four-door saloon auto around the Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany.

As well as being the most powerful Jaguar ever, the firm is claiming it features its fastest ever gearshift, as well as being the highest tuned auto and the fastest accelerating to 60mph.

You won't see many on the road as just 300 will be built by Jag's Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division in Warwickshire. Its codename: Project 8. The vehicle should grip well, too, thanks to wide tyres and up to 122kg of downforce from an adjustable carbon-fibre rear wing, yet despite all the add-ons, Project 8 is still claimed to be the lightest V8-powered Jaguar saloon you can buy. Considering the car's ultra-limited production, we have a feeling Jaguar will sell every one it makes.

"The SVO design and engineering team's mission was to create the most track-focused road-legal Jaguar in history - not only the fastest, but also the most agile", said Mark Stanton, SVO Director.

Based loosely on the XE saloon (only 25 percent of its original parts remain), the Project 8 is powered by a 592hp supercharged V8 engine providing an incredible 516lb ft of torque. Reliability and daily-driving considerations that are front-and-center in mass-market cars are less of a concern in something as specialized as the XE SV Project 8. Thanks to its high power output and all-wheel-drive system, it'll complete the 0-60mph sprint in 3.3 seconds.

JAGUAR is claiming a new world record for a lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife in a four-door saloon.
