Flames From Massive Oakland Co. Gas Line Fire Visible For Miles

The fire, which broke out late Monday evening, is located on the north side of Brown Road, west of Joslyn Road.

It started around 10:00 p.m. Monday night in Auburn Hills.

Consumers Energy says a gas transmission line ruptured in Auburn Hills, but crews are still investigating what caused it to catch fire.

No injuries are being reported at this time.

The Orion Township Fire Department says the explosion and blast area encompasses roughly 30 to 40 yards around the crater.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard says the office's phone lines, including 911, were down as a result of the fire. Consumers Energy is working with local officials to determine the cause.

Though the cities are not listed, OCSO does have substations that service the Townships of Addison, Brandon, Commerce, Highland, Independence, Lyon, Orion, Oakland and Springfield as well as Oxford, Rochester Hills and Pontiac. The explosion will also not affect school, businesses or other activities.
